Legends in spontaneous interplay and improvisation | Oslojazz 2025
Jeff Mills is one of techno's most accomplished front figures, who since before the turn of the millennium has developed, shaped, and molded the well-known Detroit techno into new forms. In the project Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, he has ventured into new musical collaborations and a different genre landscape, where the usual structures and rhythms of electronic music are replaced by spontaneous interplay and improvisation, inspired by the traditions of jazz.
Tomorrow Comes The Harvest was initiated together with the late drummer Tony Allen, one of the founders of Afrobeat. The core idea of the project was to meet without any predetermined material and instead create music in the moment, through improvisation and intuition. Keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary, a longtime collaborator of Allen, became a natural part of the ensemble. After Allen’s passing in 2020, Mills and Dary chose to carry on the project in a more open form, where different musicians can be invited for specific concerts.
For Oslo Jazz Festival at BLÅ, the trio is joined by French tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard, who has previously contributed to Mills’ classical concerts. This will be a classic!
