Blade to play with Scandinavian stars

Oslo Jazz Festival is proud to present American drummer Brian Blade as this year's festival artist.

During the week, the festival will present three exclusive concerts with Blade and stars from the Scandinavian jazz scene. Blade will play with Bugge Wesseltoft and Mari Boine, Hanna Paulsberg and Johan Lindström. Tickets are on sale now!

First up in the concert lineup is a dream team consisting of Brian Blade, Bugge Wesseltoft and Mari Boine, as well as Tuva Halse and Ellen Andrea Wang. When Blade was asked which artists he would like to play with, Wesseltoft and Boine were at the top of the list. The concert takes place at Cosmopolite on Monday, August 10th at 6:00 PM.

Tickets can be purchased here.

The festival week continues with a meeting with Brian Blade and our own saxophone star Hanna Paulsberg at MUNCH, Wednesday, August 12th at 8:00 PM. With Paulsberg's warm and direct tone in collaboration with Blade, Oscar Grönberg on piano and Bárður Reinert Poulsen on bass, this quartet will draw lines to both tradition and modernity with a forward-looking energy.

It all ends with a concert with Blade and the Swedish multi-instrumentalist Johan Lindström at the National Jazz Scene, Friday, August 14th at 6:00 PM. Lindström is one of the most versatile and sought-after musicians in Scandinavia and has played with, among others, Elvis Costello, Gregory Porter, Susanne Sundfør and Nils Petter Molvær, in addition to leading his own critically acclaimed septet. We predict that Lindström's melodic and cinematic universe dressed in Blade's dynamic playing will be one for the history books.

Want to catch all three concerts at an extra great price? Then the Brian Blade pass is for you. With this pass you get admission to all three concerts! You can buy the pass here.

“It has been very inspiring to work on this line-up in close collaboration with Brian Blade”, says festival director Line Juul. “Both Blade and the Norwegian musicians are very much looking forward to developing these musical collaborations and presenting them to the festival audience in Oslo in August”. “It will create unique musical encounters that we may only get to experience right there and then. It’s important to know your visiting time!” concludes Juul.
