Et Ørlite Beat at MUNCH
Thomas Strønen opens Jazz på Munch 2026
January 13th, 2026:
The work “A Tiny Beat” by Thomas Strønen opens the 2026 season of Jazz at Munch, Thursday March 5th. You can purchase tickets here.
The piece places emphasis on a broader artistic form in which the visual as well as the auditory are brought into focus. Together with a powerhouse ensemble, Strønen takes the audience into a multisensory universe of music, dance, and film.
Thomas Pohlitz Strønen is among Europe’s most active and distinctive drummers. He is behind a wide range of solo projects and bands, has composed extensively for stage and art projects, and has released numerous recordings on ECM Records and other labels.
In 2023, he premiered the commissioned work “A Tiny Beat” at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival. The compositions are beat-oriented and rooted in what he himself calls “physical music.” Exactly one year earlier, he received the festival’s prestigious musician award, the DNB Prize.
In “A Tiny Beat,” the music plays an equal role alongside the visual elements taking place on stage. Everyone has important roles, but rather than soloists, we are all small components of a larger machinery.
