Glorious week at Victoria
Eight wonderful concerts awaits you
May 13th, 2025:
Our program for National jazz scene is now complete and we have an exciting week ahead at Victoria. Here you will find Joshua Redman with Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity, free jazz veterans and Jazztalent-award winner with new material, and more!
[Ahmed]
The European supergroup [Ahmed] is rooted in the music of American bassist, oud player, and composer Ahmed Abdul-Malik, deconstructs it, and further explore it into new forms of expression.
[Ahmed] performs on Monday August 11th, 21.00. Tickets can purchased here.
Anna Ueland: Populærmusikk for likesinnede
Ueland was awarded the Usbl Jazz Talent prize at last year's Oslo Jazz Festival, where part of the award includes a concert at the following year's festival. The result is “Populærmusikk for likesinnede” (Popular Music for the Like-Minded), which will be performed for the first time at the Oslo Jazz Festival with an entirely new septet!
Anna Ueland: Populærmusikk for likesinnede performs on Tuesday August 12th, 21.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Cosmic Swing Orchestra
Cosmic Swing Orchestra is the band that, since 2018, has been opening people's minds and swinging straight out into the cosmos with a blissful mix of music, satire, and performance art. The show "The Jazz Togetherness Show" is the band's biggest production to date and will premiere at the Oslo Jazz Festival!
Cosmic Swing Orchestra performs on Wednesday August 13th, 21.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Joshua Redman & Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity
It felt completely right that it was Ornette Coleman's "Happy House" that was played when Joshua Redman guest-starred with Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity during Moldejazz in 2019. It became a magical concert moment and a beautiful way to honor Coleman, whom Joshua's father, Dewey Redman, played with for several years. Six years later, we finally get the opportunity to experience a full concert with Redman and Acoustic Unity!
Joshua Redman & Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity performs on Thursday August 14th, 21.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Bodil Niska Kvartett
Bodil Niska is an institution in Norwegian jazz, with a long career as a leading saxophonist inspired by greats such as Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Coleman Hawkins. She boasts a soft, yet powerful and expressive tone. For this concert, Bodil has invited the American jazz vocalist England Brooks, who perfectly matches Bodil's sound with her soulful singing style.
Bodil Niska Kvartett performs on Friday August 15th, 17.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Kleive/Aarset/Storløkken
The scene is set for a meeting between three legendary Norwegian musicians as Eivind Aarset, Audun Kleive, and Ståle Storløkken join forces. All three have, for what feels like an eternity, fed the world’s music scenes with fearless and genre-defying auditory journeys.
Kleive/Aarset/Storløkken performs on Friday August 15th, 22.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio feat. Immanuel Wilkins
After last year’s edition of the Jazzintro launch program, the trio was named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024. At National jazz scene there will be an exclusive pairing with Immanuel Wilkins! På Victoria blir det et ekslusivt møte med Immanuel Wilkins! Wilkins is one of the truly great young stars in the jazz sphere at the moment, with three critically acclaimed albums, all ranking at the top of annual best-of lists — including in The New York Times, NPR, and Jazzwise.
Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio feat. Immanuel Wikins performs on Saturday August 16th, 15.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Weird Of Mouth
Weird of Mouth consists of Mette Rasmussen (saxophone), Craig Taborn (piano), and Ches Smith (drums), a trio with exceptional creative impulses that constantly challenge each other and cross musical boundaries. This is a transatlantic project that has had sporadic activity over the years but truly accelerated in 2024 with the release of their debut album, followed by a handful of concerts in the USA. Therefore, it is a pleasure to present Weird of Mouth at National jazzscene this evening, for the first time in Norway!
Weird of Mouth performs on Saturday August 16th, 21.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
