Your new jazz favourites

May 23, 2025

It is a great pleasure to present these eight bands that have been selected to be this year's Oslojazz Talent bands! They will be playing free concerts at Becco, Blå - Himmel and Herr Nilsen during this year's festival, join the party!

Bankvelv

Bankvelv's repertoire is limited to springar and rull from Western Norway. They have gone to great lengths and learned the tunes in the master tradition on the Hardanger fiddle and accordion, before transferring and arranging them for saxophone and guitar. The result is playful improvisations in their hands, with the original dance tune in their heads.

Bankvelv will play at Herr Nilsen on Friday, August 15th at 21.30 and Becco on Saturday, August 16th at 20.00.

Bendik Lundsvoll Quartet

The music is inspired by the innovations of New York's younger jazz scene and builds on the band's ability to shape complex, yet emotional moments in the music.

Bendik Lundsvoll Quartet plays at Blå - Himmel on Wednesday, August 13th at 21.30 and Herr Nilsen on Thursday, August 14th at 21.30.

DOLKAR

Dolkar takes Norwegian and Swedish folk tunes and fiddle melodies, tears them apart and puts them back together on the premises of "jazz". We look forward to sharing old songs in a new guise with you!

DOLKAR plays at Herr Nilsen on Wednesday, August 13th at 23.00 and Becco on Thursday, August 14th at 20.00.

Erle Fonneland Septett

As a singer and composer, Fonneland is committed to letting music develop without limitations from either genres or established musical norms, and to staying true to the unpolished imagination. The universe is enlarged when both jazz and folk musicians are invited in and add new colors to the palette. In playful interaction with the six other musicians, a sound is created that oozes life.

Erle Fonneland Septet plays at Herr Nilsen on Friday, August 15 at 23.00 and Blå - Himmel on Saturday, August 16 at 21.00.

Hannah Furberg

Furberg's music is described as a mix of neo-soul, RnB and pop – with a foundation in jazz. She has a unique and captivating sound with both depth and playfulness. With a bluesy voice and power, she has been praised on stages such as Trondheim Calling, Nasjonal jazzscene and Vossajazz for both musical precision and explosive presence.

Hannah Furberg plays at Becco on Wednesday 13 August at 20.00 and Herr Nilsen on Thursday 14 August at 23.00.

Julie Horn

Julie Horn is a singer and songwriter from Oslo, with roots from the jazz line in Trondheim. Together with Ole Calmeyer, Andrea Schnell, August Bergvall and Nikolai Hansli they play her own, genre-crossing music. Here they explore textual communication, different genre expressions and improvisation.

Julie Horn plays at Blå - Himmel Friday 15 August at 20.30 and Herr Nilsen Saturday 16 August at 23.00.

Madmax

With the exotic lineup of tuba, synth, guitar and drums, and a rather nonchalant attitude towards genre boundaries, the band plays fearless music that is equally suitable for those who want to move uninhibitedly to the beat, as for those who prefer to keep their inhibitions.

Madmax plays at Herr Nilsen on Wednesday, August 13th at 21.30 PM and Blå - Himmel on Thursday, August 14th at 21.30.

Pongo

Pongo is a quartet with strong roots in 60s free jazz. The music alternates between naive, playful melodies and bloody serious, rhythmic, keep-your-tongue-straight-in-your-mouth loops. You can expect monkey tricks, explosive improvisation and impulsive, intricate songs at a concert with Pongo!

Pongo plays at Becco Friday 15 August at 20.00 and Herr Nilsen Saturday 16 August at 21.30.
